About two months ago my girlfriend and I made took the “big step” and moved in together, and although I went against the wishes of all my guy friends, I’m happy about it. We’ve been dating for almost two years, and I know we were ready to see how it would work living in the same place. She moved into my single apartment, and it’s a very good size for what I pay, so we have room for all of her stuff and I don’t have to pitch any of mine. She has a pretty neutral taste in décor too, so it’s not like we have pictures of flowers all over the place either. All of my buddies have given me grief about how I’m going to change, but she’s hung out with us a lot and likes sports so I don’t see the big deal. I think the main reason why they’re mad is I have the nicest place out of all of us and they won’t be able to hang out over here as much now, but life goes on and things change.

The only area that we had problems with was the laundry room; it isn’t really a “room” as much as it is an oversized closet, but there is a good amount of space. We tried about 20 different arrangements and couldn’t agree with one that settled nicely with both of us, so we decided to go to the pros. One of her friends, a much more “girly girl”, has a shoe obsession had some company come in, assess the space and the stuff going in it, and built her a custom shelving system. Although what we needed to store was not nearly as expensive as her shoes, we determined we did in fact need all of the stuff to go in there and had to make it work somehow. So Jenny called her up and she gave us a website to check out, and we did right after Jenny got done talking about some stupid TV show that was on that night.

It was a site all about closet organizers, and after reading the home page we knew we had struck gold. We figured we go deeper in the site and see what we could find, and sure enough there was a directory with almost 60 articles on various shelving systems and options for people like us! After doing a little research we figured out what we wanted, filled out the form, and two days later had a specialist in our apartment measuring out the dimensions. Not soon after a team of professionals came in and installed it for us, and after they were done Jenny and I couldn’t believe there was actually space left over!

We definitely couldn’t have done this on our own, and I’m glad we got this taken care of.

Now how do I get her to stop hogging my big screen with her chick flicks?

My grandma recently moved to a new part of the neighborhood, and even though she got a good deal on the place I am still a little nervous for her. My grandpa passed away in June, and she said she didn’t want to stay in the house they shared for 61 years, so she moved into a small place on the West side. I mean the area isn’t really that bad, but it is a lot farther from where I live now and if something ever happened it would take me about 10 minutes to get there. She is a bright woman for her age, and isn’t at risk to be tricked by scammers or anything, but she is a petite elderly woman and if some piece of scum decided to break into her place she’d be helpless. After pleading with her to get an alarm system, she never caved in. A week before she was moving in I went online and found a home security website, and after doing a little research I filled out the form and set up an appointment with a specialist the next day. He came out there and ran me through the options, and afterwards I went and picked up grandma to introduce her to the salesman. She felt tricked at first, but after hearing how easy and inexpensive it was, she went with the plan he developed and now has coverage on all of her doors and windows. She may think she doesn’t need to have an alarm system, but in today’s world you never know, and it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
